Hisbah, the Sharia law enforcement agency in Jigawa, on Friday said it had destroyed 238 confiscated bottles of assorted beer in Kazaure Local Government Area of the state. Malam Sa’idu Aliyu, the State Commandant of Hisbah, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse. He explained that consumption of beer was prohibited in all parts of the state. The commandant added that Hisbah would continue to fight against immoral acts, including consumption of alcohol across the state. He advised residents to desist from engaging in vices and other immoral acts capable of destroying the society. NAN recalls that the command recently confiscated 111 cartons of assorted beer in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of the state suspected to be smuggled from the neighbouring Bauchi State.

Chief Chikwe Udensi, former national chairman of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON and the guber candidate of Progressive People's Alliance (PPA) in Abia State has been accused of brutalizing his wife, Dinma Udensi and threatening to kill her. The story was shared on Facebook by one Irene Amos Abbot, Mrs Udensi's niece. President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that the country is destined for greatness despite its current unflattering condition. “The administration will continue to bring development to Nigerians, improve security and welfare of Nigerians.” Speaking during his visit to Sokoto state, Buhari noted that Nigeria had in the early 1960s witnessed reputable peace, culture of discipline and commitment to national development. “Unfortunately, the situation had changed now, but we are committed to taking Nigeria to greatness," Buhari said. He further stressed the need to give all Nigerians equal opportunities for self actualisation and urged Nigerians to continue to work for sustainable peace, unity and socioeconomic progress of the country.

Several Boko Haram members late Friday night attacked a 119 Battalion Nigerian Army location at Mallam Fatori, northern Borno State, killing 5 army officials and suffering heavy casualties as well. The soldiers fought gallantly and killed 14 terrorists. Four other soldiers sustained various degrees of injuries during the encounter. One of those killed in action, was Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Abu Ali, the Commanding Officer of 272 Task Force Tank Battalion. Last year September, he got an accelerated promotion from Major to Lieutenant Colonel for his feat against the terrorists in a previous fight.  

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has placed a ban on visits to all inmates in its detention. This follows the recent release of ex Presidential spokesman Reuben Abati. The EFCC also stopped all suspects and inmates from making phone calls to their lawyers, family members and loved ones, Daily Post reports. It's believed that the development may not be unconnected to number of solidarity visits to many of the politicians in custody, including Bala Mohammed and Femi Fani-Kayode. As a result, the PDP bigwig, Femi Fani Kayode and others won't be receiving solidarity visits from party members henceforth.  

Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church has reacted to critics who label the fees paid by Covenant University as exorbitant. According to NAN, speaking in a telecast to a pre-Shiloh 2016 Convention gathering of the church monitored via satellite in Jos on Saturday, November 5, the cleric said the critics were acting in ignorance. “The school fees has Gods approval and is in accordance with the quality of facilities provided by the university in meeting the educational needs of the nation,” he said. He added that one of such critic was smitten with a strange plague of chronic mouth odour and he only received spiritual pardon and was restored following his confession and his (Oyedepo) intervention.

The BringBackOurGirls group has lauded President Muhammadu Buhari over the recent rescue of Maryam Ali, one of the Chibok girls kidnapped by Boko Haram years ago. “We welcome news of the return of another of our abducted #ChibokGirls," a statement signed by its spokesperson, Sesugh Akume, said. “Reports from the Acting Director of the Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman Kukasheka, state that Maryam Ali Maiyanga was found amongst a group of fellow escapees by troops of 121 Battalion, Nigerian Army, deployed at Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State. “Preliminary investigations on our part, show that Maryam Ali (Number 198 on our list), a school prefect, is from Askira Uba and was abducted along with her twin, Halima Ali (Number 197), who is yet to return. We shall update the public with more details as necessary.  

Discrimination based on skin color is happening and thriving in Nollywood. Star actress, Mercy Johnson Okojie has revealed that she had difficulties landing roles at the beginning of her acting career because of her skin color. In an interview with PUNCH, Mercy Johnson Okojie said, “It is very true that when I was starting out in the movie industry, it was difficult to get roles because of my complexion. "I faced that a lot and I tell people that my success is just grace. Somebody once told me that I am too dark but that is where the grace and favour of God comes in. "Regardless of everything, most of the dark-skinned actresses that are my contemporaries made it.
