Politics FG Explains How Ex-Penson Reform Chair, Maina, Was Reinstated

Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, has explained why the federal government reinstated a sacked civil servant despite a pending corruption trial. Premium Times had on Friday reported how controversial chairman of the defunct Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, was secretly recalled to the service and promoted to head a directorate in the Interior ministry. Mr. Maina was in 2013 declared wanted by the Nigeria’s anticorruption agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Mr. Dambazau, in a statement by his press secretary, Ehisienmen Osaigbovo, confirmed that Mr. Maina is now in charge of the Human Resources Department of the ministry. The minister however denied responsibility for Mr. Maina’s recall to the service. Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Sunday mocked the President Muhammadu Buhari administration for reabsorbing the wanted ex-Chairman of the defunct Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, despite being indicted for allegedly perpetrating fraud to the tune of N2bn. Maina is expected to run for governor of Borno State in 2019 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. In his reaction, however, Fayose, who is also under probe by the EFCC, said on his official Twitter handle that, “Someone accused of stealing billions of pension fund was returned to the FG civil service and you still think Buhari is fighting corruption?”

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday returned to Abuja after attending a four-day working visit and D-8 summit in Turkey. The president left Nigeria for Turkey after presiding over Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting. While in Turkey, the president held bilateral meetings with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Erdogan. He also attended the meeting of the group of eight developing nations, D-8.

George Weah, retired footballer, on Sunday visted the Synagogue Church of All Nations in Ikotun, Lagos, to seek the support of TB Joshua, founder of the church, in his bid to lead Liberia. Weah, who is the leading candidate in the Liberian presidential election, will face Joseph Boakai, the incumbent vice-president, in a runoff slated for November 7. Metro ‎LASEMA Recovers Body of Man 'Who Jumped Into Lagoon'

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) says it has recovered the body of Mr Oluseye Adekunle, who allegedly jumped into a Lagos lagoon on Friday. The LASEMA General Manager, Mr Adesina Tiamiyu, told newsmen in Lagos that a fisherman saw Adekunle’s floating body on Sunday morning by a river bank in Lekki. He said that the deceased had jumped off the Lekki/Ikoyi Bridge into the lagoon. Tiamiyu said that a coordinated effort of LASEMA, Lagos State Waterways Authority and Marine Police recovered the floating body at 5.00a.m.and handed it over to the Lagos State Health Environmental Monitoring Unit. “The body has been taken to Lagos Mainland Hospital Mortuary for deposition. “Police will carry out further investigations on the matter,’’ he said. A first-Republic Minister of Aviation, Mbazulike Amaechi, has endorsed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Oseloka Obaze and his running mate, Chidi Onyemelukwe ahead of the November 18 poll in Anambra State. The 89 year-old ex-minister gave the support at his Ukpor home, while handing over a traditional staff of authority (Offor) to Obaze as a symbol of his endorsement. Metro Vigilante Shoots Self Dead While Testing New Gunshot Charm

A show of bravery and gallantry turned awful as a member of Isan Gona Vigilante Group, Ahmadu Maikare of Gidan Jimina village of Malumfashi LGA shot himself dead while testing a new charm meant to protect him from gunshots. It was gathered that members of the vigilante group had converged at the residence of their leader, Sumaila Rabiu, at Dubul village in Matazu LGA to take part in a traditional ceremony and initiate new members when the incident happened. Maikare was in the middle of the gathering to display the charms. He wrapped himself up in the charms, did incantations, picked a dane gun and fired on himself. He died instantly. Members of the vigilante groups fled after the incident. His relatives and friends stayed back to remove his corpse. The Police Public Relation DSP Gambo Isah has since confirmed the incidence and said investigation on going on the matter. Attached Files:

Ibrahim Idris, the Inspector General of Police, has charged police personnel to be disciplined and dedicated while in the line of duty. The IGP made this statement via the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Operations, Taiwo Lakanu who represented the IGP at the graduation ceremony of the Tactical Commanders' Course that was organised by the United States Embassy on the 19th of October, 2017. In addition to the advice on discipline and dedication, the IGP also tasked participants of the course to realise their required and collective responsibility to protect Nigerian citizens and all others currently residing within the borders of our great country. The 17 governors from the South-west, South-east and South-south are to meet in Lagos on Monday to discuss latest national issues forge stronger partnership. The meeting is coming after 12 years of a similar gathering. A statement by the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Tunji Bello, said the meeting would be co-hosted by the Governors of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode and Akwa Ibom, Emmanuel Udom. Mr. Bello said the meeting is in line with the realisation that the different states in the South have since 2005 developed several areas of comparative advantage which could be harnessed and become mutually beneficial. Caretaker Committee Chairman of Lagos State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Babatunde Osolanke is dead.  He was said to have slumped yesterday at Ikeja Airport Hotel, from where he was rushed to the Lagos State university Teaching Hospital, Ikeja where he was confirmed dead. It was gathered that the late PDP boss was billed to hold a meeting with some chieftains of the party with a view to fixing a date for the party’s congress. According to the Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee to the party’s caretaker committee, Otunba Femi Careena, Chief Osolanke died, while preparing to hold a scheduled meeting in respect of the rescheduled party’s congress.. “So we are in a mourning mood as I speak with you now, we are really in a mourning mood,” Careena said.

Metro 29 Make First Class As 1,272 Fail Nigerian Law School Exam

The Nigerian Law School on Saturday released the summary of the final examination results conducted in August. Chinedu Ukekwe, Head of Information and Protocol of the Nigerian Law School, in a statement said 1,272 candidates failed out of a total of 5,891 that participated in the examinations. The candidates who failed represented 21.6 per cent. “29 students made First Class, 211 Second Class Upper, 1,046 Second Class Lower.” He said 2,999 got a Pass, while 334 came out with conditional Pass. 4,285 candidates were successful and will be called to the Nigerian Bar. A further breakdown of the results showed 72.7 per cent passed, while those with conditional Pass represented 5.7 per cent. Ukekwe in the statement revealed that the “Call to the Bar ceremony for the successful candidates will hold on November 28 and 29 in Abuja”
