Politics Nigerian Senate to Rename 7 Colleges of Education [See LIST]

The Senate has commenced the process to rename seven colleges of education to align the location of the institutions affected by boundary adjustment as a result of state creation. The process to rename the institutions is coming more than 20 years after the states were created. A bill for the amendment of the colleges of education act to rename the institutions was sponsored by Senator Muhammadu Ubali Shitu (APC, Jigawa). The proposed law seeks to replace the word in the following states; 1. Bauchi with Gombe,  2. Kwara with Kogi,  3. Gongola with Adamawa,  4. Bendel with Delta,  5. Sokoto with Gusau and  6. Politics Buhari Finally Directs MDAs To Compile Names of Looters for Publication

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed relevant ministries, departments and agencies to compile documents on names of public officials from whom funds has been recovered so far. The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) quoted the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, as saying on Wednesday when he met with its representatives. Nigerian rapper M.I Abaga has sued American rapper Nas whos real name is Nasir Jones for breach on contract M.I and Chocolate City have filed a lawsuit in New York State Supreme Court claiming Nas didn't deliver the verse they wanted in a song. In the lawsuit, which was filed in the New York State Supreme Court, Nas and Mass Appeal Records'  Ronnie Goodman  are accused of duping Chocolate City after they had paid the rapper $50,000 for the verse. According to the lawsuit, in 2013, Nas and Goodman entered an agreement to contribute a verse to a track from M.I. The details of the deal were that Nas was supposed to mention "M.I, Chocolate City, Nigeria, Queens, New York—NAS's hometown—, Mandela, Trayvon Martin, and the struggles of Africans and African Americans" in his verse. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has advised its members in Anambra State not to go out between 6pm November 17 to 6pm om November 18 in a bid to boycott the gubernatorial election in the state. The race for 2019 Presidential election is in top gear as former Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, Thursday, met with former military Head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd). The meeting was part of his consultative meeting with former leaders of the country concerning his presidential ambition in 2019. The meeting, which was held at the Minna Hilltop residence of the former military leader, in Niger State, was held behind closed doors and it lasted for about two hours. Politics Senate Move To Probe Buhari's Bailout Funds To State Governors

The Nigerian Senate on Thursday said that it would probe how the Paris Club refunds and other bailout funds given to state governors by President Muhammadu Buhari were approved. The decision by the apex legislative chamber to investigate the funds was provoked by concerns that many state governors currently owe workers’ salaries, pensions and other allowances. Senator Samuel Anyanwu (PDP, Imo East), yesterday in plenary, sought the leave of the Senate to move a motion on the matter, querying the legality of the funds given to governors by President Buhari without approval of the National Assembly.    President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, who presided over the session, subjected Anyanwu’s request to vote. The proposal was unanimously supported and Saraki announced that the motion would be presented on another legislative day. A Nigerian man serving multiple life sentences in the United States for trying to bomb a plane has sued the U.S. Justice Department, Federal Bureau of Prisons and Attorney General Jeff Sessions for denying him free speech and religious rights. Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, popularly known as the ‘Underwear bomber’ had on Christmas Day 2009 attempted to set-off a bomb hidden in his underwear during an Amsterdam to Detroit flight. Abdulmutallab, who was then 22, was sentenced to life imprisonment and jailed at the United States Penitentiary-Administrative Maximum Facility in Florence, Colorado. But in a suit filed in a Colorado federal court on Wednesday, the 30-year-old said authorities in the prison were violating his constitutional rights by not allowing him to communicate with the outside world or practice his religion as a Muslim. Business Intels Apologises to FG, Promises To Comply With TSA Policy

Founder of Intels, Gabriele Volpi, has apologised to the federal government over the dispute that resulted in the termination of his company’s pilotage agreement with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). The agreement had allowed Intels to receive revenue on behalf of NPA for seven years. Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation and minister of justice, on September 27 directed Hadiza Bala Usman, NPA managing director, to terminate the pilotage contract, saying it was illegal ab initio. Malami said it was in contravention of the constitution and that the company failed to comply with the treasury single account (TSA) policy of the government. Politics Lagos Assembly Makes Yoruba Language Compulsory In Schools

The Lagos State House of Assembly has passed a bill making the teaching of Yoruba language compulsory in schools in the state. The bill was passed into law on Thursday after it successfully scaled through the third reading on the floor of the House. The bill makes the teaching of Yoruba language compulsory both in private and public schools in the state. It also makes it a core subject at all levels.   On Thursday, the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, ordered the Clerk of the House, Azeez Sanni, to send a clean draft copy of the bill to the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, for assent. Meanwhile, the bill also mandates state-owned tertiary institutions in the state to incorporate the use of the language as a course unit into their General Nigeria Studies, GNS. The bill indicates a fine of N500,000 for a corporate offender while any school in the state which fails to comply with the law faces closure and a fine of N250,000.

World Gunman Opens Fire on Worshippers in Shiite Mosque, 10 Dead

At least 10 people were killed when a gunman opened fire on worshipers in a Shiite mosque in Kabul on Friday as they gathered for evening prayers, officials said. “Ten bodies have been taken to hospitals in Kabul. The National Economic Council, NEC, on Thursday announced that the sum of N3.5 billion has been released for vaccination programme against communicable diseases. The government also said that vaccination campaign for measles in the 17 states in the Southern part of the country has been fixed to start from 8th March 2018.   Briefing State House correspondents after the monthly NEC, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Office of the Vice President, Laolu Akande, said government released N3.5 billion for vaccination programme of the diseases.

World 13 Nigerians Arrested In Bangkok For Romance Scam, Other Crimes

Thirteen Nigerians have been arrested by the Police in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, for various crimes. According to BangkokNation, the Nigerians were arrested at about 10 a.m on Wednesday by a team of police officers led by acting Immigration Bureau commissioner, Pol Lt-General Sutthipong Wongpin, after searching six buildings of a condominium complex on Romklao road in Klong Sam Prawet subdistrict of Lat Krabang district. Sutthipong said the search on the six buildings was conducted based on information obtained from two Nigerians the police earlier arrested for internet love scam. They found 19 Nigerians living at the condominium. Six of them were found to have unlawfully entered the country and five of them had overstayed their visas. Sutthipong said two other Nigerians were suspected of being involved in the romance scam. Police also seized 15 passbooks, seven notebooks, 12 phones, one tablet and nine passports from the suspects. The CEO has explained that the mass retrench of workers became imperative because the stations are not commercially viable. World Man Catches Mortuary Attendant Having Sex With His Dead Wife's Corpse

A grieving husband allegedly caught a male nurse having sex with his wife’s corpse as he visited her one last time in the hospital. According to Mirror, the grief-stricken husband gave the nurse a beating of his life before handing him over to the Police in Bolivian capital La Paz. The 27-year-old nurse who was later identified as Grover Macuchapi, 27 is currently facing prosecution on charges of profaning a corpse and obscene acts. The police chief, Douglas Uzquiano, said the incident happened around an hour after the patient died at Hospital de Clinicas in La Paz on Monday and was transferred to a hospital morgue. He said, “Relatives of the dead woman had gone to the hospital to cancel a debt they had for the medical treatment she received. “The husband went to the morgue and saw a male nurse having sex with his late wife.” The unnamed husband told a local newspaper: “I saw what he was doing and hit him.
