Metro RCCG Opens Drug Abuse Rehabilitation Centre in Lagos

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Tuesday urged parents, guardians and caregivers to watch out for signs of drug abuse and addiction in their children and wards to tackle it fast. Ambode said on Tuesday that drug abuse was harmful to its victims and threaten the peace of the society. The governor spoke at the inauguration of the Christ Against Drug Abuse Ministry (CADAM) Rehabilitation Centre of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Araga-Epe in Lagos He said that it was important for parents to be vigilant as drug addicts could be easily lured into crime which would ultimately threaten the development of any society. Pastor Adebayo, represented by his wife, said that the CADAM initiative was founded in 1991 by Pastor Ezekiel Odeyemi, a Special Assistant to the General Overseer of RCCG. Politics Presidency Rules Out Diezani's Extradition Request

The Presidency on Wednesday said there was no need for the Federal Government to bring a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, back to Nigeria to face corruption charges. The Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN) in an interview he granted State House correspondents in Hausa at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said the move was not necessary since the United Kingdom was already investigating the former minister. Alison-Madueke had urged the Federal High Court in Lagos to compel the AGF to bring her back to Nigeria from the UK, where she travelled to shortly after leaving office in 2015. She said she would like to appear in court in Nigeria to defend a criminal charge, bordering on alleged laundering of N450m, where her name had been mentioned. Business Buhari Approves Payment Of N25.9bn to Discos

President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Executive Council has approved the payment of N25.99 billion to electricity distribution companies in the country as party of the power sector recovery programme. The amount is part of the N67.41 billion the discos said they were being owed by the government – ministries, departments, and agencies. After verification, the Federal Government said it, however, discovered that part of the amount was owed by states, local governments, and corporate entities.

Nigerian Senate on Wednesday moved to conduct holistic investigation into alleged corruption in the Nigerian national petroleum corporation. Saraki listed the following as members of the committee to carry out the investigation: Senator Aliyu Wamakko as chairman. Senator Tayo Alasoadura, Kabir Marafa, Akpan Bassey, Sam Anyanwu,   Ahmed Ogembe, Chukwuka Utazi, Rose Oko and Baba Kaka as members of the Committee to investigate the NNPC group The Senate President said: “We must investigate this allegation and hope the quality of report will meet the standard we have set in the 8th Senate.”

Business Rice Operators Agree to Crash Price To N6,000 Per Bag

Rice farmers, millers and processors on Wednesday announced that the price of a 50kg bag of rice will fall to as low as N6,000 in the next few months. The operators said the current market price of rice, which is about N15,000 per 50kg bag, will drop to between N6,000 and N7,000 in a couple of months, going by the bumper wet season harvest by rice farmers. Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting between rice farmers/processors and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, at the ministry’s headquarters, in Abuja, the National President, Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, Mr. Aminu Goronyo, said the operators had resolved to currently reduce price of rice to N13,000 per 50kg, but stressed that the price would further drop to N6,000 in a few months. The State House Medical Centre (SHMC), which currently offers free medical services to patients, will be repositioned to offer qualitative and efficient services, the Permanent Secretary, State House, Mr Jalal Arabi, has said. Reacting to a recent media report on the state of the Medical Centre, the Permanent Secretary said the management will among other things seek the commercialisation of the Centre to boost its revenue and augment the appropriation it receives from the government in the quest for a better qualitative service. ‘‘The Centre is the only health centre in Abuja where patients are not required to pay any dime before consultation. ‘‘In other government hospitals in Abuja, patients are required to pay for consultation, treatment, laboratory tests and others but that has not been the case with the State House Medical Centre. ‘‘The Centre offers free services, nobody pays a kobo for hospital card, consultations or prescriptions and this has taken a toll on the subvention the...
