Politics Bayelsa APC Chieftain, Diekivie Ikogha, Escapes Assassination

All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain in Bayelsa State, Chief Diekivie Ikiogha, has escaped assassination by the whiskers. Ikiogha, a former governorship aspirant on the platform of the party in the 2015 governorship election, was said to have been attacked by five gunmen who broke into his house, in Yenagoa, on Monday. Sources told NewTelegraph, that said the suspected assassins, who were armed with AK47 rifles, were able to enter his compound after scaling the high fence of his residence at Nikton Road, Kpansia.   Though Ikiogha was not at home when the gunmen came as he had travelled out of the state since Sunday, the gunmen were said to have seized his police guard’s rifle, tied him up before breaking into one of the rooms in the building. One of the domestic staff, who declined to give his name, said the incident had been reported to the Police because the gunmen showed that they meant business.

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, says allegation of bribery linked to him is “all falsehood”. Mr. Dangote said a committee set up by the Kano State House of Assembly to probe the bribery allegation should not waste its time. “It’s all falsehood,” Dangote Group spokesman, Tony Chiejina, said. The allegation has no foundation whatsoever and is an “outright falsehood”, he said.   News reports have attributed how Mr. Dangote gave the former Kano Assembly Speaker, Kabiru Rurum, N100 million to end the probe of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the former speaker had in his resignation letter said he resigned in order to protect his image and that of his constituency over the corruption allegations. Mr. Rurum told journalists after the plenary session that he had urged his colleagues to be fair and just while conducting their investigation. (NAN)

Badoo Cult Group Storms Church, Kills Pastor's Wife, Daughter

Badoo , the notorious ritual sect terrorising Ikorodu area of Lagos has struck at Owode Ajegunle, killing at least three people. The cultists attacked Crystal Church of Christ (C&S)  Aladura  at no 4, Victor Anibaba Street, Owode Weighbridge, along Ikorodu Road. The cultists attacked the wife of the founder of the church, Mrs. Ajidara, her two-year old daughter and another woman who lived in the church with her daughter.

Etisalat Nigeria Gets New CEO

Boye Olusanya, former Deputy Managing Director of Celtel Nigeria (now Airtel Nigeria) has been named Chief Executive Officer of Etisalat Nigeria.    Olusanya holds a BSc in Civil Engineering and MSc in Environmental Civil Engineering from Liverpool University and another MSc in computer science from Manchester University. Joseph Nnana, a Deputy governor of the Central Bank, was also named Chairman of the Etisalat board, replacing Hakeem Belo-Osagie, who resigned.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara on Monday said that Nigeria is in a state of emergency.    The Speaker made the remark at a “Capacity/Interactive Needs Assessment Workshop of Security Sector Related Committees in the House of Representatives”.  Dogara said, “It is worrisome that Nigeria is effectively permanently in a state of emergency as the Armed Forces are deployed in more than 28 states of the federation in peacetime. “The Armed Forces have virtually taken over routine police work in Nigeria. The Nigerian Navy has released the list of names of successful candidates for its Direct Short Service Commission Course 24 Selection Exercise. Acting Director of Information, Naval Headquarters, Capt. Suleman Dahun, made the announcement on Monday. He said, “Successful candidates are to report at Nigerian Naval College Onne, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, July 5. “Candidates who fail to report by 12 p.m. on Sunday, July 9 will not be accepted for the training. “The NN also wishes to use this opportunity to remind the general public, especially interested able-bodied young men and women to take advantage of the ongoing recruitment exercise,” he said. Chinedu Paul a.k.a 'Think Twice', a Nigerian MC has been reportedly identified as one of the three men burnt to death in Ikorodu area of Lagos state yesterday after being suspected to be a member of the dreaded badoo cult group.   According to reports, the incident happened few hours after Chinedu attended 'IK talk show' on Saturday. MC Think Twice alongside his mechanics were on their way to tow his car which had broken down at midnight. Unfortunately, they were all mistaken for badoo members and hence the jungle justice.
