Politics How PDP Caused Our Inability to Pay Salaries- Aregbesola

The Governor of Osun Sate, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has ascribed the irregular payment of workers’ salaries by his administration and other states in Nigeria to “economic downturn induced by the brazen corruption, wanton theft of crude oil and mismanagement of the country’s resources by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led Federal Government”. Aregbesola, who was playing host to Federal Government Advocacy Team on the Digital Switch Over, over the weekend explained that he was not happy with the payment of modulated salary in the state, in which some cadres of the workers get 50 per cent and 75 per cent of their monthly earnings. According to the governor “no reasonable person or government would be happy for being incapacitated to perform his/its required responsibility”. “We are not happy paying modulated salary to our workers in the civil service and political appointees, we are compelled by the financial reality; we are constrained. “Contrary to the lies you are being fed, it is no...

Jega claimed that Jonathan’s government tried to “interfere with the decision of INEC to use electronic card readers”. In an interview with Jamie Hitchen, a policy researcher at Africa Research Institute, Jega said the attempt was resisted by the body. Jega, however, commended the former President, saying he meant well for “our democracy”. According to the former INEC boss, Jonathan granted all the financial requests of INEC. He said, “The administration of Goodluck Jonathan, president from 2010 to 2015, never gave any reason to suspect that there was a deliberate and wilful attempt to emasculate the funding of INEC. “For this they should be applauded. No situation arose where we had to go cap-in-hand to the executive looking for funding and I must add that when suppleme...

Politics 2018 Budget: Fresh Crisis Looms Between Buhari and NASS

Image
A fresh budget crisis between the presidency and the National Assembly is on the horizon. President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to present the budget to lawmakers this week. According to a principal officer in the Red Chamber the late submission of MTEF to the National Assembly as well as refusal to comply with relevant laws guiding budget preparations had always been the causes of challenges dogging Nigeria’s budgeting process. The senator recalled how in 2016, the Senate returned the MTEF to the executive arm of government due to lack of supporting documentation and details. He explained that the December 31-target cannot be realised due to the poor implementation of the 2017 budget. He regretted that government said they have released funds, but most of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) said they have not seen cash. He blamed the executive for the problem associated with the 2017 budget implementation. “Lack of money is not the main problem, government is slow in tak...

Metro Intels: Atiku's Firm Withholding Money Belonging to Nigerian Govt - Premium Times

Image
The management of Integrated Logistics Services Limited, Intels, is withholding a substantial amount of money belonging to the Nigerian government,  a report from PREMIUM TIMES says.  Intels, which is largely owned by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has withheld more than N40 billion it earned between January and September 2017 —including billions that should have gone into the federation account as Nigeria’s cut. Documents showed that Intels earned $132,957,286.18 (or N40.55 billion at N305/per dollar) within the first nine months of the year, but failed to remit percentage due to the federal government. This percentage, it calculates at its own discretion due to a lack of formal sharing arrangement with FG. The only boat services revenue received by NPA was a paltry $26,502.52 charge which was deposited directly by a customer into NPA’s TSA account at Central Bank, documents show. The amount represented 0.07 percent of the $132,957,286.18 that Intels has paid so far t...

World Catalonia Independence: Massive Pro-Spain Rally Hits Barcelona

Image
On Sunday, a massive rally calling for Spanish unity began in Barcelona. This is 24 hours after Catalonia was stripped of its autonomy for declaring independence. The crowd at the rally were over 300,000. Many protesters chanted that sacked Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont, who was dismissed as Spain's central government took control of Catalan institutions, should be jailed. A Belgian minister said he could get political asylum in Belgium. Spain has been gripped by a constitutional crisis since a referendum, organised by Mr Puigdemont's separatist government, was held earlier this month in defiance of a ruling by the Constitutional Court which had declared it illegal. The Catalan government said that of the 43% of potential voters who took part, 90% were in favour of independence. Attached Files:
