Ronald Koeman has been sacked as Everton manager. His sack came after his side suffered a 5-2 home defeat to Arsenal on Sunday in the English Premier League. Ronald Koeman had admitted he does not know whether he still has a long-term future as Everton manager after his struggling side slumped to a new low with a 5-2 home defeat to Arsenal. The Merseysiders now occupy a relegation berth after their third home defeat in the Premier League already this season, while they are also facing elimination from the Europa League at the group stage. Sports 2 Nigerian Athletes Ranked Among Top 10 Junior Rowers in Africa

Two Nigerian junior rowers, who participated in the just-concluded Africa Rowing Championship in Tunisia are now among the top 10 athletes in Africa, the Nigeria Rowing Canoe and Sailing Federation (NRCSF), has said. The federation’s secretary, Bunmi Oluode, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos that Moses Michael and Gloria Semidara were ranked 5th and 7th in the junior category of rowing single scull event. Metro Court Fixes Friday For Arraignment of Evans

The Lagos High Court sitting in Igbosere has fixed Friday, October the 27th for the arraignment of alleged kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans. Evans and three others would be arraigned on fresh charges of conspiracy and attempted kidnap by the Lagos State government. The court adjourned after the suspect’s counsel, Olukoya Ogungbeje, told Justice Oloruntoyin Taiwo that he had filed an application seeking to quash the charges brought. Earlier, a court had ordered the police to pay the sum of N2 million in damages to one Okwuchukwu Obiechina, said to be Evans’ brother-in-law. Justice Mohammed Idris ruled that Obiechina’s arrest and detention was unconstitutional. He held that the remand order which the police claimed to have obtained from a magistrates’ court was invalid.

Politics Jonathan 'Turns Down' Olisa Metuh's Request To Stand As His Witness

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan may have turned down a former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olisa Metuh's subpoena as his defence witness. His lawyer, Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), told Justice Okon Abang that he had written Jonathan to that effect but that the former President did not reply. Ikpeazu said his intention was to apply for subpoena to be issued on Jonathan after the detained former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, earlier summoned to testify as Metuh’s witness ended his testimony. He said, “We have another witness on subpoena, and at the end of the evidence of this another witness, we will take a decision on whether or not the first defendant (Metuh) will testify. “The other witness we want to subpoena is Goodluck Jonathan, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” Responding to further questions from the judge, Ikpeazu said, “We wrote him a letter but he did not respond and our plan will be to apply for the su...

President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government is currently considering a review of the recent senior executive appointments of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) made by its Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru. The decision to consider a review of the appointments, according to Thisday report, is predicated on the alleged breach of due process in the appointments and contract awards to the tune of $25 billion raised by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu against the NNPC boss in his letter to President Muhammadu Buhari on August 30. Business Price of Garri Crashes By 60% to N450 in Enugu

Price of garri, a staple in the country, has dropped by more than 60 percent in Enugu within four months. NAN correspondent who conducted a market survey on the staple on Monday, observed that the price has gone down from as high as N1, 250 to between N450 and N500 per paint bucket. The paint bucket of four-litre is usually the standard measure for cereals in South East. Many buyers, who came to purchase the staple in markets in Enugu, said they were happy as they could get white garri for N450 and yellow garri for N500. A buyer said that they prayed the price could crash further, while another said it should continue at its current price. The traders attributed the price crash to the current bumper harvest of cassava after many Nigerians had yielded the call to return to the farm.
