One of the 84 Nigerians who tried to migrate to Europe through Libya but were deported to the country has given account of his ordeal in the desert. After spending one and a half years in dehumanizing conditions in Libya, the Nigerians were deported. The Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki on Tuesday received the deportees at the Government House Benin City. One of the returnees, 27-year-old Eric Idemudia told Vanguard, “I had to drink my urine to survive in the desert, Nigerians were just dying like chickens everyday on our journey through the desert. “I buried some of them and others we just threw away their bodies because there was no time to bury them. I can never wish my enemies to go through such horror in a bid to travel outside the country to earn a living. “I stayed in Libya for one year and six months. Members of the Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) on Friday marched across major roads in Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra State ahead of the November 18, gubernatorial election in the state. Their key message is that Anambrarians should boycott the election, threatening that whoever votes will die. This development is arising when preparations for the Anambra polls are in high gear. A background voice in the video said: “Today, the 10th day of November, we are here to tell the people we are not afraid of the zoo. “We are not terrorists. As you can see, there will be no election. We are not going to vote. We are not going to participate. “As you can see, we are formidable. “We want the federal government to produce Nnamdi kanu with immediate effect or there will be no peace. “Come vote and die. President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday in Abuja assured religious leaders, and all Nigerians, that his administration will address rising concerns of corruption, insecurity and injustices in various parts of the country. President Buhari gave the assurance when he received a Christian delegation led by the President of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Samson Olasupo Ayokunle and a Muslim delegation led by the Secretary General of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Dr. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, in separate meetings at the State House. The Governor of Lagos State, Akinwumi Ambode, has sacked the Lagos State Sports Commission boss, Deji Tinubu. Mr. Tinubu has been at the helm of affairs of sports since the inception of the Ambode administration; but his reign ended abruptly late Thursday. Kweku Tandoh, a former Director of Sports, Lagos State Sports Council, is to take over as the new head of the Lagos State Sports Commission.   A new Director General of the Commission has also been appointed by the governor. He is Babatunde Bank-Anthony. Mr. Anthony was the former Executive Secretary, Lagos State Sports Endowment Funds. It is also understood that some other changes have been approved by Mr. Ambode in the board of Lagos State Sports Commission. ‎Details of such have not been made public.

The Operation Octopus Grip of the Nigerian Navy in Warri, Delta State has uncovered some illegal oil operations in the region. The operation, on Thursday, discovered about 30 hectares of land used for illegal refineries at the Bennet Island in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State. Alhassan said the illegal refinery camp is believed to have been re-established two weeks after it was destroyed. Various items like drums, pipes, polluted environment, storage facilities were discovered at the camp. Politics CAN Asks Buhari To Remove Nigeria From All Religious Organisations

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to exit Nigeria from all religious organisations. The CAN President, Reverend Samson Ayokunle, made the demand on Friday when he led a delegation from the association to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. Reverend Ayokunle, who briefed State House correspondents after the team met with President Muhammadu Buhari, said they asked the Federal Government to tackle herdsmen attacks in the country. Other issues include: - To step up its efforts in securing the lives and properties of the citizenry - recruit more policemen,  Ensure prompt payment of workers' salaries Ayokunle, however, said they were humbled by the President’s frankness and would expect him to act now to preserve the sanctity of the country. Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has asked the former Minister of Environment and Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed to resign and face criminal charges over alleged $300 million Rosewood scam. According to the documentary, Mrs. Mohammed was indicted playing a major role in the clearance of over 10,000 containers of illegally harvested logs of Timber worth $300 million. The report stated that the Chinese government in 2016 stopped the importation of the containers but in early 2017 over 4,000 CITES permits were issued by the Nigerian government, thus prompting the Chinese government to release the illegally imported goods into China. The permits were allegedly signed by the ex-minister of Environment, Amina J Mohammed, shortly before she accepted her new role at the UN. Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday declared the suspension of Senator Ali Ndume as illegal and unconstitutional. Justice Babatunde Quadri on Friday held that the suspension of Ndume (APC, Borno South) for 90 legislative days (Six months) on March 30, 2017 "is a violation of his right to fair hearing and freedom of expression as guaranteed by sections 36 and 39 of the extant Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and Article 7(1) and 9(2) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights, 2004." Unmarried couples in the East African country of Burundi have until the end of the year to legalise their relationships through church or state registrations. In May, President Pierre Nkurunziza signed a new law which the government says will help protect women and create a more moral society, but some disagree. The government insists a legal document recognising a marriage helps protect women and their children, especially when it comes to issues such as inheritance.
