Business Aminu Babangida Appointed As Chairman of Unity Bank Plc

Unity Bank Plc on Thursday announced the appointment of Alhaji Aminu Babangida as its new chairman‍.

This followed the approval of the board for the retirement of Thomas A. Etuh as chairman‍, according to a REUTERS report.

Nigerian Bulletin recall that in 2015, Mr Thomas A. Etuh was appointed as Chairman and while Alhaji Aminu Babangida as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Unity Bank Plc following the resignation of the former Chairman, Alhaji Lamis Shehu Dikko in December 2014 to pursue his political aspirations.

Alhaji Aminu Babangida is the son of former military President, Ibrahim Babangida,

Nigerian naira depreciated by 1.49% against United States Dollar to close at N312.98 at the Inter-bank foreign exchange market. At the parallel market, the currency down to N452.00 to the dollar as shortages on the official market persist, funneling importers to the unofficial market, amidst declining currency reserves in Africa’s biggest economy. The President, Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON), Mr. Aminu Gwadabe, argued that the current rate of the naira on the parallel market was not a true reflection of the value of the currency. Prices of Beans, Local Rice, Others Crash by 50% in Bauchi

Prices of food items in Bauchi State have continued crash after months of soaring food prices. Checks in some of the major markets in the state by DailyTrust revealed that prices of food items have reduced by about 50 percent. A bag of maize which few months ago was going for N18,000 now sells for N9,000 while local rice that used to cost N35,000 is now being sold at N20,000, a grain seller at Muda Lawal Market, Bauchi, Malam Adamu Kafin Maigari said. He also said that a bag of Beans is now sold at N16,000 from its previous price of N25,000, while a bag of millet and white rice popularly called Shinkafar Tuwo, now cost N9,000 and N20,000 respectively from their previous prices of N15,000 and N37,000. He attributed the crash in prices to the bumper harvest recorded in the country following the massive engagement in farming by many people. Forgery: We Are Not Ready For Saraki, Ekweremadu's Case, FG tells Court

Aliyu Umar, prosecuting counsel‎ in the trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki‎, and Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president, for forgery, has asked for an adjournment of the case because he is unprepared. Mr. Saraki, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, former Clerk of the National Assembly, Salisu Maikasuwa, and his deputy, Benedict Efeturi, are facing trial for alleged forgery of the Senate standing rules used to elect them as leaders of the Senate in June last year. The matter was adjourned in July till September 28 following the annual vacation of the judiciary. At the opening of session on Wednesday, Mr. Umar informed the court that he had just received a motion from the defendants challenging the jurisdiction of the court in respect of the charges against them and asking that the case be dismissed.
